Maine already has a law that allows for people who may be at risk to hurt themselves or others that is used almost daily throughout the state. This law focuses on helping the person, not just taking away their weapons and leaving them without help.
Maine has a long-standing history of responsible gun ownership and remains one of the safest states in the country. We don't need to change our laws. We need to use the tools we already have and focus on getting people help, not just confiscating firearms.
Both the Maine and United States Constitutions are very clear on the right of its citizens to keep and bear arms. Any time a new law is proposed that takes away those rights without due process, the people of Maine need to stand up.
